Software firms, next wave cities, IT-enablers dominate BPO exhibition

Over 100 companies will showcase their latest information communications technology capabilities in the government-run BPO conference and exhibition, e-Services Global Sourcing Conference and Exhibition 2008 (February 11-12), reported the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM), the trade promotion arm of the Department of Trade and Industry and organizer of the event.

This year, innovations on ICT and BPO will be presented in over 150 booths representing software companies, next wave BPO cities (Cordillera-Ilocos, Central Luzon, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, and Davao-GenSan), IT-enablers (technology vendors, IT parks, real estate), and companies engaged in animation, business process outsourcing, health information management, software development and creative e-services like games development and engineering design.

“At e-services, you meet new business contacts, network with them and at the same time work with government officials and educational institutions. This is also important because you get a feel of what’s happening in the industry and how you can help make your industry’s common goal a reality,” said Jeremiah Chow, Business Development Manager of games development firm Anino Mobile.

As part of the show’s growth strategy, the exhibition takes place at the Philippines’ newest state-of-the-art exhibition center, SMX at the Mall of Asia, the world’s third largest mall. Its buildings such as the One E-Com Center are developed to provide for office and workspace requirements of IT-related locator companies and for support office and backroom operations of BPO companies. The venue also houses American firm Dell’s customer service operations.

Companies will also present their innovations on an exhibition area of over 3,000 square meters, including leading companies like SPI, American Data Exchange to name a few and major telecommunication firms including Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT); Globe, and Bayantel.

More than fifty percent of the e-services exhibitors are small enterprises. The vent is also given strong support by industry associations such as the Business Processing Association of the Philippines (B/PAP), Contact Center Association of the Philippines (CCAP), Philippine Software Industry Association (PSIA), Medical Transcription Industry Association of the Philippines (MTIAPI), Animation Council of the Philippines (ACPI), Game Developers Association of the Philippines (GDAP), and Design Process Council of the Philippines (DPCP).

e-Services is a leading trade event showcasing global BPO buyers and suppliers as well as centers of excellence and emerging locations in BPO/ICT. It also offers an international platform for knowledge sharing on current industry trends, networking, and investment opportunities in outsourcing & offshoring (O & O ).

Alongside the exhibit is a high-level conference featuring best-of-breed global companies and A-list speakers such as Kevin Campbell (group chief executive officer for outsourcing of Accenture), TK Kurien, Abhay Havaldar, Edward Caso, Mark Kobayashi-Hillary, Dr Nguyen Le, Simon Ma, David Barrett, Alexis Sukharev, and Marc Granic to name a few.

In 2007, the show generated US$34.4 million in revenues and attracted delegates from the United States, Europe, Japan, and the Asia Pacific.

Over the years, the Philippine BPO sector has grown by leaps and bounds. According to BPAP, the Philippine BPO industry is projected to grow to US$13 billion by 2010 and create 600, 000 new jobs in the same period.

“The success of the Philippine BPO industry owes a lot to the work of organizations like the Philippine Business Processing Association and CITEM, the trade promotions arm of the trade department. Attracting customers to the Philippines is perhaps the best promotion strategy. Conferences like e-Services Philippines can be a major benefit especially if they can be comb ined with company visits,” noted Neil Elias, Philippine director for LogicaCMG global service delivery center.
